Marshall is out of contract next summer, and talks with Rovers appear to have ground to a halt, with Owen Coyle admitting he’s not expecting a decision on the player’s future until after January.
Any move in January would be dependent on the two sides agreeing a fee for Marshall, with Rovers seeking around £1.5million for his services.
But Wolves, backed by backed by Chinese investment group Fosun International, are looking to spend in January, with Marshall appearing to be on a shortlist of targets drawn up.
When asked about the speculation, Lambert told the Express & Star: “I know Ben really well.
“He’s Blackburn’s player and I know his contract is up (next summer) and all of those things.
“It’s unfair to be talking about somebody’s player.”
Marshall has made 138 appearances for Rovers since joining in the summer of 2013 for an undisclosed fee on a four year contract.
He was the subject of interest from a number Championship rivals last summer, and turned down Rovers’ initial contract offer in August before the club offered him an improved deal which remains unsigned.
Wolves are thought to be keen on freshening up their squad in January, with both incomings and outgoings expected, as they look to improve on their current position of 18th in the Championship table.
This will be Lambert’s first transfer window at the club since taking charge from Walter Zenga who was in charge for just 14 games over the course of 87 days.
