ELLA Toone scored a double hat-trick as Blackburn Rovers Ladies recorded a remarkable 19-0 home win over Rotherham United in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.

Rovers may have been five goals to the good inside the first 15 minutes but they refused to take their foot off the gas as they simply swept aside their lower-division opponents.

And doing most of the damage was Toone who grabbed six goals in her first game back at the club since re-signing on loan from Manchester City.

Faye McCoy hit a first-half hat-trick before Ainsley Strickland repeated the trick with three goals in the space of four second-half minutes before she was sent off for an off-the-ball incident.

Despite playing the final 21 minutes of normal time with 10 players Rovers continued to pile on the woe with the returning Emma Rankin bagging a brace and Saffron Jordan, Danielle Whitham, Jess Holbrook, Natasha Fenton and Kayleigh McDonald, with her first goal for the club, also getting in on the act.

Gemma Donnelly’s side had drawn 3-3 at Huddersfield Town the week before in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division.

But after the Rotherham demolition Rovers first-team Scott Macneill said: “We wanted a reaction from last week, as we were disappointed with a draw, and we got that reaction.

“One of the things we asked for was to be clinical in front of goal and we were.

“We scored quite a lot of early goals and that gave us the platform to keep punishing their mistakes.”

Rovers welcome defending champions West Brom to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium, Bamber Bridge, on Sunday (2pm).
