FINALLY it would seem Lady Luck has found the lead for her Sat Nav and is smiling down on Ewood Park.

It is only December 2, and already it feels as though we have had our Christmas presents early.

A disputable penalty in the home game against Leeds was followed at the weekend by a 95th-minute equaliser that could easily have been disallowed.

But for once, fortune favoured the Rovers and we came away with a superb point against a very good Middlesbrough side who had bossed the game at the Riverside.

The debate about the protection of keepers is one that will rage on forever. And had Mark Clattenburg blown for a foul, the debate today would have been on how soft free kicks are always given when attackers challenge the keeper.

The fact is that a goalkeeper is the only player with the luxurious position of being able to touch the ball with any part of his anatomy.

So despite Aitor Karanka’s perplexity at Rudy Gestede’s equaliser, perhaps he should be looking closer to home and asking how Dimi Konstantopoulos was so easily knocked off the ball by a man who hasn’t played a first team game since Doncaster lost at Leicester on May 3.

A successful side usually possesses a bit of luck, and it has come at the perfect time as Rovers battled back to make it nine games without defeat and as the halfway point of the season approaches we are still just four points off the top.

This is a remarkable achievement for a side that was so recently in such turmoil and is under the stewardship of a man who had never previously managed.

Gary Bowyer has, on a tight budget, put together a side that clearly has a tremendous team spirit and a sense of togetherness, and when everyone is pulling in the same direction as they clearly are at Ewood these days, you get the rewards and often a bit of the rub of the green.

Of course, Saturday’s point wasn’t only down to Lady Luck’s influence.

A certain Simon Eastwood was instrumental in keeping Boro at bay with a string of good saves and one absolute belter from a close-range header.

I feel I, and possibly a few other Rovers fans, owe Eastwood an apology for having written him off ahead of the match.

For somebody who hasn’t played a first team game since January, He slotted in and did remarkably well in a game where there were fears he could be proved to be the weak link.

I presume Jason Steele, who has also played really well in his last few games, will retake the goalkeeper jersey against Sheffield Wednesday, and perhaps Eastwood would have a right to feel slightly aggrieved after making a case for himself at the Riverside.
