TEN GOALS, three penalties, a red card and a serious injury – it’s safe to say that Bacup Borough’s second North West Counties League First Division fixture of the season, at Holker Old Boys tonight (7.45pm), will have to go some to beat the first for drama.

Brent Peters’ newly relegated side had to settle for a thrilling 5-5 draw at home to Cheadle Town on Saturday.

Bacup let a 4-1 lead slip and lost Davison Banda to a red card and Sylvester Yeboah to a suspected leg break.

Bacup boss Peters said: “It was very much the good, the bad and the ugly.

“We played some excellent football, which we produced by playing at a high tempo and pressing high up the pitch, never giving our opponents any time to settle.

“There were some great goals none more than the one from which Benjamin Boyne scored away from the penalty spot. That was certainly something special.

“The bad was first of all Banda receiving a needless yellow card and from this offering Cheadle a chance to score from the penalty spot. That was right on half-time and with us leading with an impressive 3-0 advantage.

“Later in the match Banda was sent off for a second yellow, this meant our team shape had to be changed which proved to stop our ability to press high.

“The sending off aside, the bad was our failure to defend set-pieces, in addition not being disciplined, giving away needless free kicks which resulted in us conceding goals.

“The ugly was the manner in which Sylvester Yeboah suffered a horrific injury. The boy had only taken to the pitch in injury-time. It was an ugly end to what started as an excellent opening day of the new season.”
