AFTER a tough start to the season, Bacup were their own worst enemies as they were beaten 3-2 by Maine Road.
And they were gifted their opener when Ian Barker cut out an attempted pass from Maine Road keeper Greg Hall to his full-back and played in Tony Carroll who made no mistake.
But their lead was short-lived as the visitors made the most of a set-piece and Mazdak Alimadad got the end of a low cross to slot the ball home.
Borough retook the lead on 20 minutes when Danny Hartley's deep cross found Carroll and he finished the move off.
But the visitors hit straight back again as Borough left three players unmarked when a cross came in and Neil Chappell made no mistake.
Dave Luker had an excellent chance to put Borough back into the lead but the opportunity whent begging.
And it came back to bite them on 38 minutes when young defender Ryan Hall made another rash challenge, giving away a direct free kick, that Luke Mack struck into the top corner.
Maine Road had keeper Greg Hall to thank in keeping their lead intact but it was more woe for Borough.
