ROVERS’ dramatic comeback victory over Plymouth Argyle was the comfortable winner of the vote to find readers’ favourite game of the 1970s.

Rovers came from 2-0 down to win 5-2 in the Ewood Park fixture in February 1975.

Plymouth were real promotion rivals of Rovers at the time, with both trying to earn a place in the Second Division.

As it turned out, both clubs were promoted and that victory proved the difference between the two as Rovers won the Third Division title.

The Plymouth game took a huge 69 per cent of the vote, with fans choosing their favourite match online and via post.

In second place was Rovers’ 3-2 derby win at Burnley in 1977, secured thanks to three first-half goals.

That game took 29 per cent of the vote.

Gaining one per cent was the 2-0 home win over Chesterfield that confirmed promotion from the Third Division in 1975.

Also nominated in a generally difficult decade for the club were Rovers’ 5-0 thrashing of Watford and their 3-2 Boxing Day win at Oldham, both in 1973.
