IT may not have been a victory, but readers have voted Blackburn Rovers’ remarkable FA Cup comeback at Turf Moor as their game of the decade for the 1960s.
Rovers came from 3-0 down with only 15 minutes left to draw at East Lancashire rivals Burnley in their quarter final tie in March 1960.
It is a derby match that is still talked about now and the result proved crucial in the club’s march to the FA Cup final that season.
Rovers beat Burnley in the replay 2-0 at Ewood Park. They have not reached the FA Cup final since that year.
Fans chose their game of the decade online and by post and the Burnley cup clash got 31.5 per cent of the vote, narrowly pipping Rovers’ 7-2 incredible demolition of Bill Nicholson’s Tottenham into second place.
Third place went to Rovers’ 4-1 win at Burnley in the league in 1965 – still their biggest win at Turf Moor since 1890.
Fourth was the 8-2 thrashing of West Ham at Upton Park on Boxing Day 1963. Also nominated was Rovers’ FA Cup semi final victory over Sheffield Wednesday in 1960.
