CHORLEY FC manager Matt Jansen believes the Magpies head to The Shay stadium on Saturday knowing they are on the verge of greatness.

The Victory Park outfit booked their place in the Vanarama Northern League play-off at FC Halifax Town with a dramatic 2-1 aggregate win against Kidderminster Harriers.

Should the Magpies emerge victorious then they would be promoted to the highest level they have been at in the football pyramid since the 1980s.

Winning promotion would also mark a great achievement for Jansen who

He said: “It would be an unbelievable achievement (to go up).

“I have said it before that we were not expected to do it because we don’t have the budget that other clubs in our league have.

“It is a toughest league I have known. Halifax are a strong side and we lost there 2-1 and then 2-0 at home.

“We have got nothing to fear and anything can happen in the final but we will not underestimate them.

“But we have to turn up and have the same energy levels we have had all season and give a good account of ourselves.”

Jansen was excited about the match but it was still early days in terms of injury problems.

He said: “We will be assessing everybody throughout the week and I am sure there are a few niggles but we will give them a couple of days to get them sorted.

“The good news is that Jack Sampson will return from suspension so it gives me a bit of a managerial heartache.”

Jansen was delighted about the performance of the players in the semi-finals after over-coming a 1-0 deficit when they lost the first leg .

He said: “We were not going to rush to get a goal back at Victory Park.

“We managed to get an early goal on Sunday and then Adam popped up with the winner.

“The thing was that we knew we were in the fourth minute of added time and there would be four left so we just kept telling the referee to blow the whistle.

“It was a great performance again and the players were fighting and there is great togetherness as they work for each other.

“They showed great desire to get a result.”

Jansen also issued a rallying call to fans to get behind them at they travel over the Pennines on Saturday.

He said: “I keep saying they have got us through games.

“They made us run the extra half yard and we hope they can do the same in the final.”
