TYRONE Mears is absent from the Burnley squad for this afternoon's first away game of the season, at Ipswich Town, after suffering a shin injury.

The right back, who played his part in a clean sheet at home to Nottingham Forest in an opening day win last weekend, will be replaced by former Newcastle United defender David Edgar.

The Canadian's inclusion is the second change to last week's starting eleven, as Clarke Carlisle starts in place of the injured Michael Duff.

Returning Chelsea loanee Jack Cork is named on the bench, along with Kevin McDonald, who didn't figure in the 18-man squad against Forest.

Ipswich had made three changes to the team which beat Middlesbrough 3-1 at the Riverside last weekend.

Jon Walters has been stripped of the captaincy and left out altogether following a bust-up with manager Roy Keane, who has given the armband to David Norris.

Jon Stead starts in Walters' absence, while Shane O'Connor and Andros Townsend, a season-long loan signing from Spurs, start in place of injured duo Mark Kennedy and Carlos Edwards.
