BRIAN Laws praised his side's superb comeback in the 4-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur - but bemoaned the fact they had to battle back from two down.

Gareth Bale and a Luka Modric rocket handed Spurs a 2-0 lead.

Wade Elliott pulled a goal back before the break, while Jack Cork, Martin Paterson and Steven Thompson’s decisive fourth completed an impressive turnaround in the second half.

“I think everybody would have said at half-time they didn’t see that coming.

"We certainly didn’t do it the easy way. We started very slowly and of course got punished in that period,” Laws continued.

“I was very disappointed with their first goal because it was a nothing ball over the top, Brian Jensen was way out of position and really should have been sweeping that up.

"It was basic decision-making which we didn’t take and that gave them the lead in the first few minutes.

“The second goal was sheer quality – nobody could have stopped that.

"But we had to regroup and I thought that in the last 10-15 minutes of the first half we started to probe and pass the ball well.

“I said at half-time that we had to pass the ball a bit quicker and reduce our touches to at least one or two. I thought we were dawdling on the ball too much.

“When we move it we can open up, and certainly we did that in the second half.”

He added: “It was great credit to the players, they could have switched off but they didn’t, they’ve finished the season and given everybody a lift, particularly the supporters.

“They’ll go away in the summer thinking positive things about the football club and about the players, and if we can keep the majority of the group together and add to it with quality then we will have a really strong chance of bouncing back, and everybody wants to be part of that.”
