SEAN Dyche still has his eye on potential players he could add to his Burnley squad as the transfer window nears a close.

The Clarets have so far added Jay Rodriguez and Erik Pieters to their ranks, but could be keen to bring in another central midfield player as Steven Defour is still struggling for fitness.

Dyche however is keen to not get dragged into signing players for the sake of it and only wants to bring in people who can obviously strengthen his side.

“It is still a challenge, we are still looking if there is something that can improve us but we have still got to fit the finances,” said the Clarets boss.

“It is still the same record that is playing.

“It is a tough balance to find. I think we have done well so far filling the two key slots.

“Erik looked sharp again when he came on against Wigan and Jay Rod gives us something slightly different in the final third of the pitch.

“What is out there to make us continue to improve is a debate on what is available and whether we can then make it happen.”

Rodriguez looked sharp up front with Ashley Barnes and scored in the 2-2 draw at Wigan Athletic’s DW Stadium .

The striker and left back Pieters are the only new additions to the Burnley squad, but Dyche is keen to add further to add more competition for places amongst the squad.

“It is a bigger picture, one swallow doesn’t make a summer,” added Dyche.

“We have to make sure we have enough in our locker to make sure we can take on a whole season.

“That is why we are still looking, not because I don’t believe in the lads it is just can we improve it and get more competitive in all areas.

“We will keep working, keep searching and see if we can find something that works.”

Burnley’s boss thinks the spending of the bigger clubs in the league is what raises the price for potential players he is looking to add to his squad.

“The big stuff is big which drags all the rest of it up with it,” Dyche added.

“The market gets forever bigger, the Championship is different as we know but the Premier League market just keeps going, it has not stopped yet. It drags every other figure up then, for every player that moves for a huge figure, everyone judges against that figure.

“It’s the same with your house. If the bloke down the road sells his for 100 grand more then you think yours is worth 100 grand more, whether it is or not. That is the way it goes.”

The Burnley boss also has the club’s goalkeeping situation to sort out as he has three England internationals at his disposal in Tom Heaton, Nick Pope and Joe Hart.

Joe Hart started last season as the man in goal, but lost his place after Christmas to Tom Heaton, who played the remaining 19 games and was a key figure in Burnley’s Premier League survival. Nick Pope has since signed a new contract and he will be hoping to get more game time now he is injury free.
