Jay Rodriguez is close to sealing his return to Burnley.

The Clarets have activated the release clause in the striker's contract – believed to be £5 million with a further £5 million in add-ons.

The 29-year-old has not travelled with the Baggies for their pre-season trip to Spain in order to thrash out the move to Turf Moor.

The Burnley-born forward scored 41 goals in 121 games for his hometown club before joining Southampton in 2012 for £7 million.

After the Clarets failed in their bid to sign him last summer, Rodriguez narrowly missed out on firing West Brom back to the top flight last season, scoring 22 goals as his side lost to Aston Villa in the play-offs.

He is now keen on a return to the Premier League with Burnley closing in on finally getting their man.

The news follows hot on the heels of Erik Pieters’ imminent move from Stoke, the left back being brought in to provide competition for Charlie Taylor after Stephen Ward’s departure.
