Burnley have signed promising right back Joel Senior from National League North side Curzon Ashton.

The 19-year-old joins on an initial 12-month contract, with the option of another year, and will link up with Steve Stone’s Under-23 side who play their Professional Development League games at Curzon’s Tameside Stadium.

The former Oldham Athletic youngster has impressed during training with the Clarets and was in the squad for the Lancashire FA Senior Cup final defeat to Blackburn.

“I’m delighted,” said Senior, who has also played for Maine Road and FC United of Manchester.

“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been working hard for it for the last three or four years and it’s finally happened.

“Burnley have put their trust in me and I’m delighted to be here.

“A lot of people’s routes have been different and mine has been to come up through men’s football with some good clubs. I’ve finally found Burnley and I’m delighted to be here.”

Last season’s Under-23 right back Jordan Cropper has signed a professional contract and could be loaned out.

Senior will likely be one of the players to benefit from that potential vacancy.

“It’s everything a player could want here and is perfect for me to fulfil my potential,” he said ahead of reporting for pre-season training at the Barnfield Training Centre in July.

“Compared to where I’ve been it’s completely different, but it’s what I need to develop my game and become the player I want to be.

“I want to come in for pre-season fully fit and be ready to get into the Under-23s team and who knows where you can go from there?

“I’ve got to work hard and that starts now. Let’s see where it takes me.”
