Burnley's marathon man Ben Mee believes the Clarets can be proud of their 15th-placed finish in the Premier League.

On paper it is a slip from the run to seventh 12 months earlier that sealed a spot in the Europa League.

But having been three points from safety after the 5-1 Boxing Day defeat to Everton the Clarets rallied impressively to make sure of a fourth straight campaign in the top flight next term.

Mee, one of only three outfield players to play every minute in the top flight this season alongside Wolves' Conor Coady and Crystal Palace's Luka Milivojevic, now believes the Turf Moor side can kick on back towards the top half of the table.

"It's a fantastic achievement," said the 29-year-old central defender.

"It's a really successful season for the club, and it gives us chance to rebuild and get even stronger next year.

"From where we were at halfway to where we are now, it's been a brilliant turnaround, and with the summer now, the club will get the chance to get that extra bit of money coming in and hopefully we can make the club even stronger than we are now.

"I've enjoyed it, the last four or five months.

"It's been a good second half of the season and playing every minute, personally, has been a great achievement."

Mee was relatively happy with the final-day display against Arsenal as the Clarets went down 3-1.

All the goals came in the second half of a pulsating game at Turf Moor that was far from typical end of season fare.

The frustrating thing for the Clarets was a Jack Cork error, the midfielder overhitting a pass for Mee, set Arsenal on their way with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang racing clear to score the first of his two goals.

"It was a decent performance," said Mee.

"Unfortunately there was a mistake for the first goal, but we kept going and could have got back in the game and equalised, but we didn't take our chances.

"But I thought it was a good performance.

Mee made 43 appearances in all competitions across the season and in some quarters is being backed for a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad.
