BURNLEY's Ashley Westwood praised his side's fighting spirit after the Clarets came from behind at Stamford Bridge to earn the point that should keep top flight football at Turf Moor.

The fiery 2-2 draw away at Chelsea sees Cardiff City needing a nine point, and a very unlikely 17-goal turnaround, to pull the Clarets back into a battle for survival as Sean Dyche's men hit the all important 40-point mark.

The midfielder praised the defence as they had to dig in deep at Chelsea, this was the Clarets of last season that saw them finish in seventh place in the Premier League.

Westwood said post-match: "It was entertaining!"

"We really had to dig deep in the last 20 minutes and that shows the spirit we have got in this group.

“We have shown that since Christmas and been on a great run.

“We took a real bump in the road against Everton (on Boxing Day) and we have come back and shown what we can do.”

Westwood and his team mates worked extremely hard to keep Chelsea out in the second half, after all four goals came in the first half.

The midfielder went down with cramp in the final minutes and Chelsea, who needed a win for their hopes a top four finish, let their frustrations come out after they thought it was time-wasting tactics from Burnley - it left a heated finish to the game which saw Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri sent off.

“It’s unlike me,” added Westwood. "Me and Corky did some running. We all did, and that’s what we do for this team and that’s what we’re all about.

“That’s football. We have come here and we’ve upset them, but that’s what we need to do. As Burnley, we need to do that.

“We are fighting for our lives and they are fighting for fourth spot. I think it was a great night for football.”
