BURNLEY'S Chris Wood admits he is surprised striker partner Ashley Barnes has never had an international call-up for England.

The Kiwi international and Barnes have 10 goals each in the Premier League this season - Wood thinks he would add some value to the England squad.

Barnes' 10 league goals this season means he is currently level with Manchester United's Marcus Rashford - who has 31 England caps to his name.

Bournemouth's Callum Wilson has featured in the last two squads, he is two goals ahead of the Burnley forward in the scoring charts.

"I am surprised yeah because he causes defences a hell of a lot of problems. He could do that on the international stage as well," said Barnes' strike partner Wood.

"I'd like to think he will get one very soon. He should have had one by now. He's a menace, causes a lot of problems. I'm just glad I don't have to defend against him.

"England don't have anyone like him, I think he would add value to the England squad, definitely.

"He's scoring goals but he also does well to get other people into positions to score some goals. He has an all round game, he works tirelessly on centre halves and doesn't give them a minute's peace."

Barnes received a yellow card in Saturday's win over Cardiff City as he kissed Joe Bennett on the nose during a coming together, Wood has has had his say on the picture that has surfaced.

"We've seen a photo, it's certainly different. I think he just felt the love. Leg pulling? I don't think so, it's just how it goes.”
