BURNLEY'S Chris Wood believes there has been a 'buzz' around the training pitch this week as the Clarets prepare for their trip down to Bournemouth.

Last week's win against Wolves moved Burnley five points clear of the drop zone, but the striker insists his side are taking it game by game.

The New Zealand international highlighted that Burnley will be safe if they play the way they know they can.

"It’s been great, a good week as always. Training has been nice and lively, and everybody is up beat which is the main thing," he said.

"It makes it so much better, you get the feel-good factor along with the performance and you get the three points – it’s perfect.

"It felt that way, playing well in the game helps – it makes people buzz round a lot more.

"It’s one of them things after an international break when the boys get back on Thursday.

"It normally takes a bit longer, but we clicked in to gear nicely."

Burnley's 2-0 win over Wolves moved them five points clear of Cardiff City - who have lost twice since that match.

"We just take it game by game and focus on if we win at the weekend then it’s another step forward," added Wood.

"If we get a point then it’s another step. It’s all about keep moving forward.

"You want to get clear as soon as possible. It’s nice, but you can’t think about what other people are doing.

"We don’t have a hand in their business – we just do what we do and focus on us. If we do the right stuff, then we’ll be safe."

The striker heaped praise on youngster Dwight McNeil.

"He’s settled in to the dressing room very nicely, he’s a local lad and has come up through the system and done fantastically," said the Kiwi.

"As long as he keeps working hard then he’s got a bright future ahead of him.

"That’s what the good players are, they can be quiet off the pitch as youngsters, but when they’re on it, they’re full of freedom and desire. He definitely shows that."
