BURNLEY under 23s have progressed to the last 16 of the Premier League Cup after beating West Brom U23s 1-0.

Dan Agyei's goal in the second minute in the match at Curzon Ashton's Tameside Stadium was enough to secure the Clarets' progression in to the next round

The striker almost doubled his tally three minutes later with a superb display of power and pace, but Alex Palmer saved his shot at goal.

West Brom pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half, but the Clarets defence stood strong and kept hold of their clean sheet.

The group stage is now over and the other teams to progress are Stoke, Sunderland, Everton, Blackburn, Bournemouth, Nottingham, Leicester, Swansea, Wolves, Derby, Aston Villa, Reading, Fulham, Leeds and Newcastle.

The Clarets topped their group which contained Bournemouth, Liverpool and West Brom.

Steve Stones' side won two, drew three and lost just once in their six group games.
