PHIL Bardsley believes the Clarets’ unbeaten run highlights the impressive nature of recent Burnley displays.

Sean Dyche’s side made it eight league games without defeat when they beat Tottenham 2-1 at Turf Moor last time out and will bid to extend that record against Newcastle United tonight.

You have to go back to 1966 for the last time the Clarets were unbeaten for this many games in the top tier.

Harry Potts’ side were undefeated for the opening eight games of the 1966-67 campaign having also won the final match of the previous season.

The Clarets haven’t gone nine unbeaten in a single top flight season, something they could do tonight, since 1962 when they didn’t lose in 10 league matches, from September to November.

And Bardsley, who has impressed since returning to the side at right back, hopes the record can set the Clarets up for a strong finish to the season.

“All credit to everyone at the club, everyone plays their part,” he said. “We want to keep progressing and keep putting more points on the board. We want to finish the season strong.

“It’s not easy in the Premier League, going one game unbeaten is hard enough. Never mind eight!

“The lads have been outstanding in the last eight games and we’ll be looking to continue that on Tuesday night.

“Every game is a big one in this league but you want to be taking points against the teams around you. The form we’ve shown in going unbeaten there’s no reason we can’t continue that.”
