SEAN Dyche believes several of his Burnley players are putting their hands up for international recognition with their recent performances.

The Clarets are unbeaten in eight games and beat Spurs 2-1 at Turf Moor on Saturday in front of watching England boss Gareth Southgate.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton could be recalled into the Three Lions squad given his impressive run of recent form while James Tarkowski has also been in Southgate’s thoughts in the past.

Austria manager Franco Foda also took in the win over Spurs as he ponders calling up Ashley Barnes.

The Turf frontman spoke after the victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s side about potentially forcing his way into Southgate’s plans but Dyche said his striker had not spoken to him about any prospective international decision.

“I am always open to speak to the managers of various countries if they want to do that,” said Dyche.

“It is their job to decide whether they want to call players up or not.

“There is a bit more talk about the England players now as well with Gareth and it is up to them really.

“I want players to be recognised at international level for the club, not just for them but for the club and it is a good thing.”

Heaton appears the prime Burnley candidate to win a spot in Southgate’s next squad given his performances since returning to the side late last year.

The 32-year-old has won three caps, the last in a 3-2 defeat to France in June 2017, and was named on the standby list for last summer’s World Cup, alongside Tarkowksi.

And Dyche feels his club captain fits the mould of player Southgate and England are looking for.

“I don’t judge other managers on who they should be picking because I know how hard it is, particularly when you’re talking about a starting XI,” said the Clarets chief.

“It’s one of the manager’s hardest jobs because he’s got to find the right balance, make it successful, pick a team that can win, keeping the group right, keeping the mentality right. Gareth has done that well.

“Rather than an international side, he’s tried to make it like a club. From the outside looking in, from my knowledge, that’s the feel. When they went to the World Cup he made it feel like a team, a unit.”

“Whoever fits in that has got to be a good player but Gareth will also be looking at their type. Can they fit in to this team mentality that he’s got?

“My feeling is that Tom is definitely a team player. He definitely understands the professional side of the game, he’s driven enough but he’s also humble enough to understand the team dynamic.

“I can definitely vouch for him on that but whether Gareth thinks that’s right or whether he wants to play him then that’s down to him.”
