BURNLEY's James Tarkowski wants Burnley to build on their recent run of form, insisting the job of top flight survival is not done yet.

The Clarets weekend win over Spurs moved them to 14th in the Premier League table and six points above the bottom three ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Newcastle.

The Magpies are one place and two points below Sean Dyche's side and should Burnley make it nine league games unbeaten they will move at least seven points above the drop zone ahead of Wednesday night's fixtures.

And although Tarkowski is pleased with the way things are going at Turf Moor, he wants there to be no let up.

He said: "Our manager is not stupid, he knows we are not out of it but he knows that the way we are performing we just need to keep pushing with that.

"I think the training in the last few months has been top class and you can just see the lads are ready to go when it comes to a matchday, we go out there to perform.

"There was a lot of questions over us at the start of the season because we were conceding a lot of goals so that is rightly so. Now we have shown what we are about and what we can do and I think everyone in the team is pulling together in the right direction - defensively and going forward.

"We will keep building, we know how well we have done to get to where we are but we can't undo that good work now."

The 26-year-old added: "We have moved our way a bit ahead of the relegation zone but it is not like we were 20 points ahead like we were last year. We need to keep working hard, the unbeaten run is good and it keeps building confidence and we just want to get on to the next game now.

"You can see how it (confidence) works, at the start of the season we weren't playing terribly but we were getting beat 4-2 or 3-2. We were 1-1 against Spurs and we just went again and kept making more chances and got the goal at the end."

Ashley Barnes hit the winner for Burnley on Saturday, tapping home seven minutes from time.

And Tarkowski felt the Clarets' attitude and performance in the closing stages spoke volumes.

"I thought we finished on top to be honest," he added. "Even in the last five minutes when you expect us to be in our own camp we weren't really. We were in the top corner of the pitch keeping the ball.

"It is nice to see that we are finding performances individually and as a team. That has got to continue because we are not out of this battle yet, we have done terrific to get to where we are but we are not out of this yet."
