SEAN Dyche praised the form of Burnley's strike pair after Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes downed Tottenham.

The Clarets duo are in a rich vein of goalscoring form with the pair having scored 11 goals between them in Burnley's unbeaten top flight run, which was stretched to eight with victory over Spurs at Turf Moor on Saturday.

And Dyche felt Wood and Barnes were reaping the rewards of their hard work.

"That endeavour and work for the team is a thing that sometimes goes under the radar when strikers are scoring but the front two at the minute are working for the team," said the Clarets chief.

"They were excellent. But it's their team play - scoring goals is fantastic - but their energy, their desire, and that hardiness you need to be a centre forward, getting knocked around, that's an important part of it.

"And they are definitely getting their rewards, scoring, and scoring regularly."

The win over Spurs lifted Burnley to 14th in the table, six points ahead of third bottom Southampton who face Arsenal on Sunday.

Dyche's men have taken 18 points from eight games since that Boxing Day humbling at home to Everton and are now just four points off the top half.

The Burnley boss admitted there had been some home truths after the Toffees loss but felt his side were on the road to recovery before that defeat.

Dyche added: "That was a hard one to take of course but I think it was probably that bottoming out moment and a subliminal thing as a player when you go: ‘right that’s not me and that’s not us as an individual and as a collective.’

"There were no big chats, we had a quick chat about and said ‘that’s not us’ and reminded them of a few things that make us what we are.

"And the players deserve a massive amount of credit and raised their game and energy levels.

"The stats have changed radically, just on the simple demand of the physical side of the game, of running hard and pressing hard. They have got their rewards from that.

"Now the biggest challenge of all is to keep doing it because we want to keep going.

"We are certainly setting ourselves a base to work from to do that and we have to challenge ourselves again with each game that comes."
