STEVE Stone believes Burnley prospect Michael Fowler might one day be worth a few quid - but says the talented teenager still has a lot to learn.

The 18-year-old netted twice in the Clarets Under-18s 4-2 win over Leeds United on Tuesday and has more than 25 goals to his name this season.

He is a regular in Burnley’s Under-23 squad and was on target in the 4-2 win over Bolton last week.

And Turf Under-23 boss Stone will continue to ease Fowler into his side during the final months of the season.

“He knows where the goal is and he is always in the six-yard box,” said Stone of the frontman.

“If you are a striker and you have got that then you might be worth a few quid.

“But he has got a long, long way to go.

“We have got a lot of tidying up to do in terms of his first touch, his lay-offs, his game awareness and appreciation, but he scores goals.”

Fowler has proved he is capable of cutting it at Under-23 level and has started the last two games for Stone’s men.

He was on target against Bolton before playing 52 minutes in the win over Hull City last Friday.

And Stone has been pleased with the goal threat he has brought to a side that had been struggling to score prior to their last two games.

“It is something which we have struggled with of late,” he admitted.

“Defensively we have actually kept the ball out of the net really well, Anthony Glennon and Bobby Thomas at the back have been great, but we have lacked goals.

“We have created a lot of chances and he (Fowler) has come in from the youth team where he has been scoring two every game so he has deserved his chance.

“He is probably not ready to go in full time at the minute, he needs dipping in and out over the next couple of months to see where he can get to but he is very effective.”
