BEN Gibson is hoping to make his mark for the Clarets in the final 12 games of the Premier League season after admitting he has felt something of a forgotten man since joining Burnley.

The centre back moved to Turf Moor from Middlesbrough in the summer in a club-record £15m move but has suffered two hernia injuries since joining.

That has restricted him to just five appearances, and only one Premier League start.

He found the net in the Boxing Day defeat to Everton but has had to make do with a place on the bench in recent weeks with Burnley unbeaten in eight top flight games ahead of this weekend’s home game with Tottenham.

And Gibson, who forced himself into England manager Gareth Southgate’s thoughts during his spell on Teesside,, although he is yet to win a senior Three Lions cap, is hopeful he can make an impression for Sean Dyche’s side in the final weeks of this season.

“The injuries are behind me now. I feel really fit, strong, and raring to go,” said Gibson.

“Injuries are part and parcel of the game, but touch wood I’ve been lucky in that respect in the past. Just unfortunate on this occasion.

“But there’s nothing you can do about it except to get yourself fit again as quick as you can, and that’s what I’ve done.

“Now I’m fit and ready to go, and ready to make my mark for the team.

“Lately we’ve had some really good performances and results and we want to build on that.

“For me, I’m as fit as I can be, and if I get given an opportunity I need to take it.

“At this club, the manager is very good at knowing when to bed players in . I can’t control selection of the team.

“I just need to give my all in training every day, do everything right, and wait for my opportunity to come. It’s as simple as that.

“You can’t worry about things that are not in your control.”

For Gibson, this season also saw him change clubs for the first team, leaving boyhood team Middlesbrough in the summer, something the 26-year-old has also had to adapt to.

“I’ve never moved clubs before,” he said.

“I went out on a couple of loans earlier in my career but the move here was a massive change.

“It was a move I took on for reasons that I felt were for the best and you come and you’re desperate to make your mark.

“But unfortunately injuries have meant I haven’t been able to do that.”
