BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche is hopeful Robbie Brady will return for Saturday's Premier League clash with Southampton but Steven Defour remains a doubt with a calf injury.

Brady came off at half time in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City last weekend with a groin problem and missed the 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Tuesday night.

Defour, who played 77 minutes in the cup clash, was not in the 18 for the Old Trafford trip after picking up an injury on the morning of the game.

The pair's absence meant Academy prospect Josh Benson was named on the bench along with the returning Johann Berg Gudmundsson who came on for the final 13 minutes.

On Brady's midweek absence Dyche said: "It was an unlucky one, we have had to make a call on it. He came off on Saturday and it was tight, sore and he was back around training. I said to him that we have to make sure. Steven Defour is very similar, he's got a very minor calf niggle.

"We are trying to get people back fit. We had Josh Benson on the bench and we are stretched yet again.

"We are trying to be as sensible as we can and work with these players to allow them the best chance to be fully fit.

"Robbie has got every chance of being back in and around it for the weekend, Steven we will wait and see."
