SEAN Dyche admits the Premier League remains Burnley's primary focus ahead of the FA Cup fourth round clash at Manchester City on Saturday, writes JONNY MASSEY.

The Clarets trip to the Etihad will be followed by a league clash at Old Trafford three days later, a game that has greater meaning for Dyche will who make changes for the cup clash.

“Our goal has been and continues to be the Premier League because of what it brings, the strength it brings to the club financially, the kudos, the brand, everything.” Dyche said.

“The players also want to challenge themselves at the top level and the Premier League is arguably the top level. That’s why it’s the No.1 goal.”

After a turbulent start to the season, Burnley’s form has improved with three successive league victories prior to the goalless draw at Vicarage Road last weekend.

And The Clarets boss remains focussed on finding a level of consistency in the Premier League to ensure top flight football next season.

“There are lots of clubs out there like us who are of a similar mind to us," he said of prioritising the league over the cup.

“It’s nothing to do with any downgrade or misrepresenting the trophy, it’s just the facts.

“I will try and remain clear in my thoughts, but there is no lack of respect. I’ve had fantastic times in the FA Cup as a player, but even in those days, teams weren’t getting £100million to be in the Premier League.

“You can take the emotion out of if for me because you have to take the business viewpoint. I just see it as a fact.”
