BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche admits he is not close to any January deals and said there is 'constant interest' in his players.

The Clarets have yet to make a signing this month and the Turf boss believes the winter window is a tricky time to do business.

But he is keen to strengthen the squad and is also wary of bids for his own players, although there are no firm offers on the table for anyone at the moment.

“It’s forever difficult," he said of bringing players in. “(There are) situations, possibles, not many probables at the moment, and that’s just the way it is.

“January is very tough, everyone knows that, we don’t say it just to throw a line out there, I think it just is.

“We want the pressure, I wanted to bring in more in the last window, I made that clear to everyone, not because I don’t trust my players or rate them, because I do.

"But there’s only so much pressure as a manager you can put on players, there’s a different kind of healthy pressure which comes with new signings, with capable signings, because I was a player and you look around and think ‘I’ve got to look after myself’. That can enhance performances.

“Managers have brought players in and they don’t always play, but it raises the bar, and the standard pushes again.

“Then, if they do play, it raises the bar anyway, because the fella who’s come out of the team is trying to work to get back in it.

“I still would sign players if they are right for what we need, and we want to do that on an ongoing basis, for that in-house demand.”

Burnley's budget is among the lowest in the Premier League and Dyche, while having money to spend, knows it does not compare to the spending power of other top flight clubs.

"It's funny, people pre-suppose there's big figures to spend, and I can assure you they're not giant," he added.

"There's an amount the chairman and board feel comfortable with that is possible, but it's not an open cheque book, that's never been the case."

The Turf boss also admitted that he also has to brace himself for interest in his own players before the window closes on Thursday.

"We always have to look at outgoings, possibly, if people come in for our players, because there's a chance because we have some very good players here, I've said that all along," he said.

"We're not in a position where we have to do that, that's changed, but we still have to be aware of it."

He added: "There's constant interest (in our players), there's no direct interest to me but there's constant interest.

"When you've been in the game as long as me, it's not hard to find things like that out, people put it to you quickly enough."
