THE player ratings from Burnley's 1-0 FA Cup third round win over Barnsley.

Dwight McNeil gets our vote for man of the match

Nick Pope 6

Solid on his first appearance since injuring his shoulder against Aberdeen in July. Collected crosses well and didn’t have a save to make.

James Tarkowski 7

Captained the Clarets for the first time from the unfamiliar position of right back. Coped well defensively and got forward to good effect.

Ben Gibson 6

Made one good block early on and otherwise was relatively untroubled as Burnley’s backline limited Barnsley to very few chances.

Kevin Long 6

Came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half with a powerful header and was part of a solid Burnley backline

Stephen Ward 6

Back in the XI for the first time since Burton in the Carabao Cup and performed well. Replaced after 60 minutes.

Dwight McNeil 8

Teenager started his third straight game and was the brightest player on the park. Full of attacking intent and should have scored early in the second half.

Steven Defour 6

Fit-again midfielder made his first appearance in more than a month but couldn’t stamp his authority on proceedings

Jeff Hendrick 5

Playing in a central midfield role but lacked the ambition to really drive forward. Needed to use the ball quicker in the second half.

Charlie Taylor 7

Pushed further forward to the left flank and gave a good account of himself. Always an option and produced a couple of excellent crosses

Sam Vokes 6

Had two bites at the cherry with efforts in the first half and sent a header wide in the second but it didn’t really happen for the Welshman.

Matej Vydra 6

Won the ‘penalty’ before being halted in his run up and was also fouled for the winning spot kick. A willing runner but his first touch let him down too often
