ASHLEY Barnes insists Burnley are now looking up the Premier League table having clambered out of the relegation zone courtesy of Wednesday’s 2-1 win at Huddersfield.

The Clarets are 16th in the standings ahead of their next top flight fixture at home to 19th placed Fulham.

That game represents a further chance to pull clear of trouble but Sean Dyche’s side first have an FA Cup third round tie at home to Barnsley to contend with on Saturday (12.30pm).

And Barnes wants to keep the momentum gained from back-to-back league wins going.

“It was a massive win. It’s a huge feeling to get back-to-back wins,” said the frontman who hit the winner at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“It’s fantastic that the fans can go home happy.

“It’s huge and it just puts us in a better position in the table. It looks a lot better.

“But the work isn’t done yet and we’ve still got a massive job on our hands to keep climbing this table. We feel that we can do it.”

The Clarets had slipped into the mire following a poor run of form which saw them win just once in 12 matches.

The six points gained in the past week will certainly have lifted morale at Turf Moor but Barnes insists belief has not been a problem for Burnley.

“The confidence has always been there,” he said. “We just haven’t been able to get the points on the board. Luckily enough we’re starting to show that.

“We’ve still got a long way to go but the top half is our aim. We need to get as close as we can to what we achieved last season. To finish in the top half would be a massive achievement for us. It’s a massive achievement to stay in this league.”

Barnes may well be rested for the visit of the League One Tykes this weekend but wants the Clarets to continue their winning form ahead of the crunch visit of Fulham next week.

“We’ve got to take it one game at a time but back-to-back wins is a massive achievement for us and we need to go again,” he added.

“We’ve got a cup game at the weekend and then we need to be ready for Fulham.

“We’ll prepare properly for the weekend. We’ll have to see what team the gaffer puts out.

“It’s a knockout, so let’s see where it takes us. We can’t go in to any game relaxed, we’ll be looking to win it.

“It will be fantastic if we can get on a cup run.”
