DWIGHT McNeil wants Burnley to take their impressive performance in the weekend win over West Ham into Wednesday night's crunch clash with relegation rivals Huddersfield Town.

The Clarets beat the Hammers 2-0 at Turf Moor on Sunday with McNeil, on his second Premier League start for the club, netting the second goal after Chris Wood had put Sean Dyche's side one up.

It was a momentous occasion for the 19-year-old who became the first teenager to score for Burnley in the Premier League when he slid home Ashley Westwood's cross at the far post.

The victory moved Burnley up to 18th in the table, level on points with Southampton in 17th.

And with the Clarets' next two top flight games against the sides below them in the standings, McNeil knows how important the trip to the John Smith Stadium is.

“We’ve just got to kick on now. We’ve got to take what we did (on Sunday) into Wednesday," said McNeil ahead of the Terriers clash.

McNeil will hope to keep his place in the starting XI after his impressive display against West Ham and the youngster, who joined the Clarets from Manchester United in 2014, admitted it was a dream day.

“Everyone was saying before the game get to the back post and you will get goals,” he added.

“When it went in I couldn’t believe it. It was a great moment for me and my family.

“At first I didn’t think it had gone in but when I saw it I was really happy.

“It’s been a dream since I was a kid and now it’s come true.

“When you’re in the playground as a kid you always dream about scoring goals like that and it was amazing to get one.”

He added: “It’s been a great day, an unbelievable feeling and great to get back to winning ways.

“We could have had more. It was a really good performance and especially a great reaction from the lads after what happened the other day."
