BURNLEY midfielder Jack Cork knows the next couple of months hold the key to Burnley’s survival chances as they attempt to pull clear of relegation.

The Clarets are in the bottom three ahead of today’s visit of Everton to Turf Moor having been beaten 3-1 by Arsenal last time out.

The gap to safety stands at two points and Cork believes the bottom seven are all in relegation danger with the 29-year-old confident Burnley will be on the right side of the line come May.

“Definitely, we have a lot of time. We are a bit disappointed with the first half of the season but we have a lot of time to change it round,” he said.

“We have three or four months before the end of the season. The last month is a bit tougher fixtures wise but if we can get a good two or three months in us then we should be okay.”

Asked how many sides he thinks are in the relegation battle, Cork said: “Anything below 20 points I think. If the teams above get a bad run of form then there is no reason why they can’t be sucked in as well.”

The next three matches represent a chance for Burnley to put some points on the board before the Premier League takes a break for the FA Cup third round.

West Ham follow Everton to Turf Moor while Burnley’s first fixture of the new year is away at Huddersfield.

And Cork wants to make the most of a home double header.

He added: “In two weeks you can play three of four games and a couple of wins change the outlook of the table.

“At home we know we have a great record. The fans, it doesn’t matter how we are getting on form wise they will always be behind us and it is a tough place for people to come.

“I don’t think people like coming to Turf Moor and that gives us a little bit of an advantage and hopefully we can use that.”

Cork felt Burnley competed well at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and now wants to turn performances into points.

The Clarets edged several tight contests on the way to qualifying for the Europa League last season and the former Swansea man is keen to get back to that level of performance.

“We have high expectations in the changing room and we had a great season last year and did really well and finished seventh in the league and we don’t want to follow that up with a season where we are bad,” he added.

“We don’t want to let the standards slip. We need to make sure we play like we have in the last three or four games and keep those standards high.”
