BURNLEY have turned down a club record offer of £15million for defender Michael Keane from Leicester City, the Lancashire Telegraph understands.

The 23-year-old centre-half is wanted by the Premier League champions to provide cover for established pair Robert Huth and Wes Morgan.

But the Clarets are desperate to hold on to one of the prize assets, who played 44 times and scored five goals last season as they clinched the Championship title and promotion back to the Premier League.

The former Manchester United youngster, who arrived at Turf Moor in September 2014, was the target of a £7m bid from Stoke City in January and has also attracted interest from Everton this summer.

The offer from the Foxes is more than double Burnley’s record fee received, the £7m they pocketed from Southampton for Jay Rodriguez four years ago.
