THE season is only a game hold and it seems not many things change in the Championship.

Once great clubs still think they’re the bee’s knees, the standard of refereeing is as bad as ever and them down t’road are losing already.

Seriously though, I love the start of the football season and, unlike some of my fellow Clarets, I’m reasonably happy with the point at Leeds United.

We didn’t play as well as I am sure we all know we can, and the gaps we know need plugging were in evidence, but a point at Elland Road should be seen as a positive.

We could have had two penalties in the first half and I’m disappointed we didn’t get at least one of them.

The first challenge on Lukas Jutkiewicz looked a little robust but he was shaping up for an overhead kick and I think we might have been a little aggrieved had it gone against us.

The second looked much more clear cut, the Juke again involved, this time latching onto a through-ball and Giuseppe Bellusci definitely handled the ball as he looked to flick it inside.

Quite how referee Kevin Friend and his assistant missed it is beyond me but I guess we’ll have to get used to it this season.

The game itself was a little cagey and did lack real quality at times until the hosts took the lead with a stunner from substitute Mirco Antenucci.

We gave the lad far too much room but take nothing away from him, it was a superb curling strike that new captain Tom Heaton could do nothing about.

With just seven minutes left I feared we were going to start the new campaign with a defeat but our own substitute Sam Vokes delivered a stunner of his own just three minutes later.

Debutant Tendayi Darikwa, who had a steady-ish first start since his move from Chesterfield, delivered a peach of a cross and Vokes directed his head with aplomb into the far corner.

In the end a point was probably a fair result and the performance will have given Sean Dyche plenty to think about.

It’s obvious we need a little more creativity in the centre of the park and whether that is from Nottingham Forest midfielder and long-term Burnley target Henri Lansbury or someone else we need to solve that poser quickly.

I’m convinced we have goals in us up front and I’d be interested to see Vokes and Jelle Vossen up top because I think that’s our strongest pairing.

Plenty to ponder already but one thing is for certain, it’s going to be an interesting year!
