I’M not sure when we’ll learn but we need to start doing so soon. Yesterday against West Brom we did what we’ve done so much recently, raced into a 2-0 lead.

And then things started to unravel, again as they have done so much recently.

It was the third time in four matches that we’ve thrown away such a commanding lead and the points dropped really could be the difference between survival and relegation come May.

I really hope they aren’t but that is the reality of the division.

The two goals we scored were superb.

Tony Pulis’ side looked rattled and we should have been able to see it out until half time.

But Chris Brunt’s goal in first half stoppage time was a big blow for the Clarets and again highlighted our weakness at set pieces.

At 2-1 it needed us to come out for the second half on the front foot and to be fair we did.

West Brom did start to find their rhythm without ever really causing us too many problem until Brown Ideye again found the Clarets defence napping and equalised.

The loss of a 2-0 lead wasn’t the only negative on a foggy afternoon at Turf Moor.

Dean Marney picked up a knock in the first half and didn’t reappear for the second 45 and that is a big worry, especially given our lack of options in the centre of the park.

The transfer window was a disappointing month and I just hope our inability to get any of the deals we were working on over the line doesn’t come back to haunt us.

The next few weeks are awful in terms of the teams we’re up against - Manchester United away on Wednesday is the start of a run which also includes trips to Stamford Bridge, Anfield and St Mary’s - but I guess that is when we really surprise people.

One thing is for certain, we’ve no time to feel sorry for ourselves because we need points on the board.
