BLACKBURN Rovers reserve team manager Gary Bowyer believes Micah Evans’ fine start on loan at Accrington Stanley could give him the confidence to kick on and score more goals at the Crown Ground.

Evans has been given permission to play in Stanley’s FA Cup first round tie at League One side Notts County tomorrow, having scored just five minutes into his Reds debut in their 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

The Blackburn wide man is on loan at the Crown Ground for an initial month, with the possibility to extend the deal, and Bowyer hopes the 18-year-old will continue his progress with Stanley after appearing for Rovers’ reserve team.

And Evans can take inspiration from former Rovers youngster Dean Winnard, who captained Stanley at the age of 22 on Saturday while regular skipper Andy Procter was suspended.

“I noticed Dean was captain and that’s fantastic,” said Bowyer.

“Dean’s determination was always his main asset and Micah has that work ethic too.

“I’ve worked with Micah for three years. He has pace and he uses it, he’s not a player who doesn’t use his pace. He wants to get forward and score goals, but he’s also willing to get back and work for the team. We were delighted to see he scored on his debut.

“He can be a confidence player so his confidence will be sky high.

“He is someone who is capable of scoring goals and I’d imagine he will want to score more goals now.

“The FA Cup will be another level for him. How he progresses at Blackburn is down to him, he just has to keep working hard.”

Padraig Amond and Tom Bender are also expected to be available at Notts County, although Stanley were yesterday waiting on per-mission for some of their other loan players. Jayden Stockley, Kevin Long, Will Hatfield and Luke Dobie are also on loan at the club.
