ACCRINGTON Stanley are likely to hand longer contracts to players this summer in a bid to avoid a repeat of the Michael Symes scenario.
Stanley signed Symes on a one-year contract last summer and could now be set to lose him on a Bosman free transfer, with their top scorer keen to play in League One.
All but four of the current squad are on one-year deals, with Stanley operating with one of the lowest budgets in the Football League, but that could be set to change.
“If we want to lure players here we might have to offer two-year contracts,” said assistant manager Jimmy Bell.
“We’ve got our fingers burned this year with Michael Symes, only offering him one year – although with his credentials when he came to us we really could only offer him one year.
“We might consider two-year contracts.”
