STANLEY goalkeeper Jonny Maxted believes tomorrow's match at Barnsley is the ideal game for his side to perform to their best.

Maxted has been at Stanley over a year now and thinks being settled at the club is a big help.

The 26-year-old highlighted how his side like to play out from the back and that people wouldn't expect this from League One.

"There was a little blip on Tuesday night against Blackpool. It was one of those games where we’ll try and turn it around," added Maxted.

"We know it’s going to be a tough game, but if we play like we did on Tuesday then we’ll give them a run for their money.

"Like I say, it’s going to be a tough game and we’ll see where it takes us."

Stanley signed Maxted from Guiseley in January 2018 and is now fully settled at the club.

"Yes, it helps. Ideally I'd like to be playing every game, it’s out of my hands and I’ve just got to keep working hard," he said.

"It makes a massive difference if you know everyone around the club and you’re settled in to it."

John Coleman expects his side to play out from the back, this is something Maxted has had to get used to.

"The gaffer’s put it in to that we play out from the back, if it’s not on then you go long.

"People don’t look at League One and think we’ll be playing football, they think it’ll be ‘boom ball’.

"That’s not the case, there’s a few teams in League One who play football, it opens doors to let people see what the league’s about."

The goalkeeper insists League One was always going to be difficult.

"It’s frustrating but look at the performances – Tuesday night was really good, we’ve been like that all season," added Maxted.

"We’ve played well and haven’t scored goals, or we’ve played alright and nicked a result.

"It’s different in League One, it was always going to be. The performances we’ve been putting in have been good."
