WE rate the players from Accrington Stanley's 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town on Boxing Day.

Connor Ripley 6

The only save of note was when he had to claw a cross away towards the end of the game. Other than that, Ripley didn't have much to do apart from make some decent passes.

Callum Johnson 6

The right back was put under pressure all afternoon as the visitors left back was always an outlet. Despite this, Johnson stood up well to it.

Mark Hughes 7

Both centre halves defended resolutely as Shrewsbury began to put the pressure on in the second half once they had got their goal. Hughes was good positionally and was able to head clear a lot of balls.

Michael Ihiekwe 7

Much like Hughes, the centre half was always in the right place to clear any danger around his goal.

Nick Anderton 6

Had a steady game at left back. Distributed the ball well and defended strong when he was needed to. Put in a couple of dangerous balls in to the box too.

Jordan Clark 8

Opened the scoring within 25 seconds and proved a constant threat all game. Could've and probably should've scored a second as two of his efforts were well saved.

Sam Finley 7

Grafted in the middle of the park. Broke up play well with some good pressing and tackles. This enabled his side to spring attacks quickly.

Dan Barlaser 6

Tried to make things happen in the midfield but it didn't really happen for him. Pressed hard and passed the ball on quickly when he could.

Sean McConville 7

Hit a well struck free kick that looked goal bound until the 'keeper gathered. Was a threat all day down the left as he came inside on his right foot.

Connor Hall 6

Tried to make things happen but it just didn't fall for him. Was substituted for Offrande Zanzala with 20 minutes to go.

Billy Kee 8

Scored the second, and ultimately, winning goal with a typical poacher's goal. Was a problem all afternoon for the Shrewsbury defence.
