ACCRINGTON Stanley new boy Tom Davies is determined to make the most of his Football League chance having penned a one-year deal at the Store First Stadium.

The 23-year-old was released by League One side Fleetwood at the end of the season and becomes Stanley’s first summer signing.

And the centre back is delighted to have joined John Coleman’s side.

“As soon as I heard Accrington was an option and I had the chance to stay in the league it was what I wanted to do,” said Davies.

“I’m really happy to have signed. The season’s only just finished but I’m already looking forward to next year.”

Davies, who spent time in the academy’s of both Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, joined Fleetwood from FC United but didn’t make a first team appearance during his stay with the Cod Army and spent time on loan with Conference clubs Alfreton, Lincoln and Southport.

And the defender said he feels that he can improve as a player at the Store First Stadium and admits he is raring to go for the new season.

He added: “It didn’t work out for me at Fleetwood for whatever reason but I’ve played a good number of games in the Conference and I now want to be a league footballer.

“Accrington’s the place where I can achieve that.

“Speaking with the manager he’s said that’s something I can do here.

“I’m just excited to get going and get some league football under my belt.”

Stanley boss Coleman is keen to bring in further new recruits having seen long-serving captain Luke Joyce join Carlisle United while defensive pair Nicky Hunt and Rob Atkinson have also left the club despite being offered new deals.

Former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder Gerardo Bruna has committed to another season at the Store First Stadium while six more players, Adam Buxton, Shay McCartan, Kal Naismith, Piero Mingoia and Liam Golding, have been offered new deals but have yet to commit their future to the Reds.
