ACCRINGTON Stanley picked up all three points to deliver a late Christmas present for their fans with a 2-1 home win over Shrewsbury Town.

First half goals from Jordan Clark and Billy Kee were enough to earn the Reds three points despite Oliver Norburn scoring a softly-awarded penalty for the visitors.

Stanley couldn't have asked for a better start as Clark put them ahead inside 25 seconds.

The midfielder picked the ball up from a loose defensive header, drove into the box and curled a lovely finish beyond Steve Arnold in to the far corner.

In the opening quarter Stanley were mightily impressive and the second goal came in the 21st minute as Clarke again proved influential.

His low cross from the right found Billy Kee unmarked in the box and the striker finished first time in to the corner.

There was almost an instant way back in to the game for the visitors when Greg Docherty fired across Connor Ripley's goal.

Clark almost grabbed his second of the game when he was played in by Connor Hall but his strike was straight at keeper Arnold.

Shrewsbury came close to finding a way back into the game with the last kick of the first half when Docherty dug out a great cross but Josh Laurent could only flick his header wide from six yards.

Much like the first half, Stanley made a quick start to the second with Clark denied by Arnold.

Six minutes in to the second half and Shrewsbury were handed a way back into the game through a controversially awarded penalty when Fejiri Okenabirhie went down after a challenge by Callum Johnson.

The Stanley players were furious with the decision but Norburn stepped up and sent Ripley the wrong way.

Clark was then denied by Arnold while at the other end sub Alex Gilliead got on the end of Okenabirhie's pass but his shot went across the face of goal as Stanley held on to secure the points.
