POLICE have released images of 13 men they want to speak to after disorder among rival football fans in Chorley.

After the match between Chorley and Chester on February 19, five people were arrested, a 72-year-old man was struck on the head by a brick and a police horse was allegedly headbutted.

The release of the images comes after officers reviewed hours of CCTV footage taken from council cameras and video shot by police and from the force helicopter.

Police said all of men were suspected of serious public order offences.

The game was marred by violent clashes at several locations in the town after the match including Bolton Road and Rangletts park.

The suspects are thought to be both Chorley and Chester fans.

Dozens of police, mounted officers, dogs and the helicopter were deployed to the scene.

A crowd of 3,223, the biggest at Chorley since the 1980s, had gathered for the Evo-Stik league first division game at Victory Park, which the Magpies lost 1-0.

Three men were later charged with public order offences with one of them facing animal cruelty charges for the horse allegation.

More than 1,000 Chester fans were among the crowd.

Supt Richard Robertshaw, said: “Fans from both teams were involved and a significant police operation has been ongoing since the match to find those responsible for the mindless violence.

“The behaviour of a small minority of individuals both during and after the match was appalling.

“Others have already been identified and I anticipate arrests in the next few days.”
