Two goals in the last 10 minutes rounded off a lively, entertaining match at Euxton's Jim Flower Memorial Stadium last night.
Jamie Vermiglio headed in a Jack Dorney corner on nine minutes but the West Lancashire League side battled back and former Chorley junior Sam Bolton equalised with a 19th-minute penalty after Vermiglio had brought down Tom Whittaker.
Keeper Ross Baxter, another ex-Magpie, tipped a Jordan Stepien free kick on to the post and Andy Russell hit the woodwork as the visitors tried to regain the lead.
Dale Whitham put Chorley back in front four minutes after the restart from Stepien's corner and in the 55th minute Stepien intercepted a backpass before rounding Baxter and tapping the ball in. Then Wayne Maden headed against the post.
Ryan Lilley reduced the arrears on 71 minutes from a Greg Johnstone pass, but nine minutes later Shelton Payne forced Baxter to let the ball squirm over the line.
Mark Houghton rounded off the win five minutes from the end when he ghosted in to tap home a Payne cross.
The Magpies' first win of the pre-season campaign was a boost in time for the promoted Colwyn Bay's visit to the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium on Saturday, July 31 (3pm), a rearranged fixture that replaces the game against Runcorn Linnets.
