STRIKER Sean Maguire admits he would snap Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman’s hand off if he was offered the chance to return to the Store First Stadium.

The West Ham loanee ended his three month stay at the Reds with a goal in the 1-1 draw with League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

The 20-year-old now heads back to Upton Park and cannot move again until the loan window opens on January 1.

When asked if he would fancy another stint in League Two, Maguire said: “I would chop John’s hand off.

“It has improved me as a player physically and mentally and tactically. I have felt myself getting stronger every week.”

Maguire has scored four goals in 13 appearances since moving to East Lancashire including one on his debut in a 5-4 win at Northampton in September.

And the Irishman believes Stanley can continue their improvement citing the team spirit at the club as a factor which can propel them into the top seven The striker added: “I have loved it since the very first game against Northampton. I don’t think I will play in a better game.

“The team spirit has been amazing. I don’t think I will go to another team which has that spirit.

“There are probably five or six loan players here and you think everyone won’t get on with each other but everyone does.”

Maguire believes the point at league leaders Wycombe on Saturday, coming on the back of an FA Cup second round replay defeat to Yeovil Town which cost the Reds a chance to take on Manchester United, shows the spirit in the camp.

“It shows how good a team we are and what our team spirit is all about,” he said of the home draw with Gareth Ainsworth’s side.

“Last weekend against Portsmouth we all played well and got a great win. Unfortunately we couldn’t beat Yeovil in midweek and then we came back from a goal down against the leaders.

“It shows how far we have come since John and Jimmy have come in.”

The weekend encounter was not the prettiest on the eye at times but a draw was a welcome result for Stanley who sit 11th in the table heading into Christmas, just four points off the play-offs.

And Maguire insists that the Wycombe draw showed the hallmarks of a side equipped for the top seven.

“It was more of a battle than a football game.

“The boys dug in and got a point and we’re happy with the result.

“We can play football and we can play in a battle.

“I was pleased to get the goal.

“I hadn’t scored for four or five games.”

The Reds travel to York City on Boxing Day before a home clash with Burton on Sunday as they look to further cut the gap to the top seven.

Stanley then begin the New Year with a trip to Exeter City on January 3 with the Football League not playing on New Year’s Day this season.
