HOLLY Bleasdale locks horns with pole vault legend Yelena Isinbayeva tonight for the second time in a fortnight as the Blackburn Harrier star gears up for next month’s World Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
The 20-year-old Olympic medal hopeful came a close second to Isinbayeva at the Pedro’s Cup in Poland earlier this month, after both had cleared 4.70m but with the Russian winning the event on countback.
She gets another crack at the current Olympic champion at this evening’s XL-Galan event in Stockholm, Sweden.
Also competing are 2009 world champion Anna Rogowska and Pan American champion Yarisley Silva.
Bleasdale flew to Scandinavia having been voted the European athlete of the month for January following a stunning start to 2012.
She moved up to second on the world and European all-time list with a magnificent jump of 4.87m in the French town of Villeurbane on January 21.
The Chorley-born star followed that up by defending her UK indoor title in Sheffield and then triumphing at last weekend’s AVIVA Grand Prix in Birmingham. She will be a strong medal contender for next month’s World Indoor Championships, this summer’s European Athletics Championships in Helsinki and, latterly, the Olympic Games in London.
