TWO Blackburn Harriers stars are fresh back from representing their country in the ninth World Mountain Running Association International Youth Cup.

Liz Greenwood and Jack Hindle were part of the England squad for the under 18s event in Arco di Trento, Italy.

Jack was 24th in his 47-strong field in 23 minutes and 58 seconds, finishing as the fourth fastest English runner.

That meant he just missed out a team bronze medal, which went to the three fastest finishers from England.

Jack said: “Racing for England in Italy was such a good experience and such a great feeling to wear the vest.

“I didn’t have the best of starts but I got my head down and worked away.

“I lost my timing chip halfway round and had to turn back to get it but I felt strong on the last part of the race, gaining places and finishing strong, on what was the longest finishing straight ever.

“I am happy with my race and couldn’t ask for a better experience.”

Liz passed the post in 19th place in her 49-strong field in a time of 21mins 31secs, making her the second English counter.

She said: “The course was great but very challenging as the climb was very steep up to the castle at the top.

“I didn’t do as well as I had hoped in the race but enjoyed it nonetheless and the whole weekend was a great experience, particularly meeting lots of athletes from other countries.”
