FOUR young Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club members represented their county at the North West Sportshall final.

Cai Smith, Martin Rimmer, Joe Bowles and Jack Hughes pulled on the Lancashire vest at the big under 11s regional showpiece at Sportcity in Manchester.

Smith, who captained the boys’ team, Rimmer, Bowles and Hughes all improved on personal bests in their three track and field events.

Those performances ensured Lancashire came fifth overall in the final boys’ standings following a closely-fought competition.

Five Chorley runners, meanwhile, took part in the latest South East Lancs Cross Country League race in Leigh.

Youngster Daniel Lilley produced a brilliant display to finish eighth in the U11s boys race. Paul Wareing was 51st in the main race followed by Simon Townsend, Barry Chester and Phil McCullagh.

Chorley finished 10th in the veteran senior men’s standings.

Robert Walsh, meanwhile, passed the post in third in a Parkrun series race at Cuerden Valley in a superb time of 20 minutes and two seconds.

He was followed by fellow Chorley members Mike Hendry (23mins 28secs), Finty Royle (26mins 30secs), John Minton (32mins 31secs) and Tom Hilton (38mins 21secs).

At the Preston event, Jason Riley finished in 27 mins 14 secs.
