HAVING grown up watching their famous encounters with the England men’s team at the national stadium, Burnley’s Rachel Brown admits it will be a dream come true to face Brazil at Wembley at the Olympic Games.

The Everton Ladies goalkeeper is part of Hope Powell’s 18-strong Great Britain squad and helped her country to a clean sheet in their final warm-up match on Friday, coming on as a half-time substitute for Karen Bardsley in a 0-0 draw against Sweden at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium.

Great Britain are now preparing for their three group games at the Olympics, with the final fixture a potentially decisive clash against Brazil on July 31.

The two sides have met at Wembley six times in the last 25 years, including a famous 1-0 friendly win under Sir Bobby Robson in 1990 courtesy of Gary Lineker’s goal.

And though it is with Great Britain and not England, the 32-year-old is hoping to be part of another thrilling clash.

“I grew up watching the men’s team playing Brazil at Wembley. It’s a huge game and is really one which will remain in my memory,” said Brown.

“I think even if it was a game of table tennis, Brazil versus England at Wembley would get a massive following, and it will be just the same with Great Britain.

“Put those three names together and it’s just amazing.

“We haven’t played Brazil before but we have seen them play and we know how good they are – they’re a very skilful team just like the men’s team.

“It will be really exciting to be at a big stadium and hopefully with a big following.”

Bardsley is favourite to take the keeper’s jersey when GB open their Olympic campaign against New Zealand on Wednesday in Cardiff.

Saturday’s second group game against Cameroon will also take place at the Millennium Stadium.

For Great Britain it will be a first appearance in the women’s football competition at the Olympics.
