WHO? The 23-year-old from Colne, a former Park High School pupil, comes from a cycling family – his mother represented GB in road racing. He won a surprise bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, East Lancashire’s only medal.
IN THE GB TEAM? The squad will be confirmed in June but Burke seems certain to be part of the team pursuit quartet.
MEDAL? Great Britain are expected to claim a medal in the team pursuit after securing victory in Beijing. They will hope for gold again but will face serious competition from in-form Australia.
