Accrington Stanley goal hero Andy Mangan hopes his season starts now after his first ever Football League strike proved vital.

The 20-year-old secured another injury-time win for the Reds just seven minutes after coming off the bench.

And, although it's no secret that Mangan would prefer to be given a first team start, he was delighted with his contribution and hopes it's the first goal of many.

"I'm made up. I've waited a long time for my first league goal after starting when I was 17," said the former Blackpool striker.

"It was a great header from Paul Mullin, I gambled on it, the defender tried to pull me back but I got away from him and put it in the bottom corner.

"It was a good goal, but I'm made up with the three points more than anything.

"If I can come on and help the team that's fine.

"The gaffer knows when to put me on because they were getting tired and slow.

"I've had chances in games when I've come on before but this time I managed to put it away."

He added: "I'd like to play more but all I can do is keep working hard and keep scoring in the reserves and when I come on.

"Hopefully my season starts here but we'll see what happens."
