STEVE Cotterill was delighted following Burnley's thumping 4-1 Championship victory at Norwich City yesterday.

Striker Andy Gray scored twice, with James O'Connor and Alan Mahon also on the scoresheet, as the Clarets strolled to a comfortable win.

He said: "We've done well away from home this season.

"We are very pleased with that performance. We feel as though we have had those performances at home.

"But we have not bore any fruit from the games against Wolves, Colchester and last week against Southampton. They warranted points.

"Sometimes you get them when it's unexpected and people looking at this would have probably put Norwich down for a home win.

"I thought our players were terrific, full of energy, strong in their running and passed the ball very well at times.

"We are just delighted. It's a long journey home but it will be a decent one."

Within two hours of the final whistle, Canaries boss Nigel Worthington was given the sack following Norwich's poor start to the season.

But Cotterill did not want the discontent at Carrow Road to smear his side's performance.

He added: "Whatever else is going on has nothing to do with us. We could have come here on a day where they were spiked from last weekend's results and stuck five on us.

"We knew we had to be on our mettle and make sure no outside influences affected the way we played.

"The result was comprehensive. It's a good result but we've played better than that this season.

"We are not going to put that down as our best performance of the season."
